Administrative Philosophy

Writing Program Administrators, and directors of similar programs, must take on many roles, including that of classroom instructor so as not to lose touch with the very programs we are overseeing. We serve many interests: students, faculty, administration, the profession, and the broader community. My goal is to contribute positively to the development and success of all these stakeholders. The years I spent in the financial services industry have proven to be invaluable in my work as CCSU’s first ever Director of Composition and over the past four years, my approach to administration has coalesced around four primary principles.

  1.  Acknowledge and consider the local conditions.
  2. Develop and ensure programmatic consistency and coherence.
  3. Build and maintain a community among writing instructors.
  4. Represent the program to the larger department and around the university.
